Panthers Claim Marcus Freeman
September 4, 2007
The Carolina Panthers have claimed tight end Marcus Freeman, quarterback Matt Moore and tackle Frank Omiyale off waivers from Baltimore, Dallas and Atlanta respectively, the team announced Sunday. All three players were waived when teams reduced their rosters to the 53-player limit for the regular season on Saturday. To make room on the roster for them, the Panthers placed tight end Michael Gaines on injured reserve with a shoulder injury and waived tackle Rashad Butler and guard Will Montgomery.
Freeman (6-2, 246 pounds) attended training camp with the Ravens after being signed as an undrafted rookie free agent from Notre Dame. He played in 44 games with 11 starts during his career for the Fighting Irish and posted 14 receptions for 148 yards and two touchdowns.

David Faces Former Team in Opener
September 4, 2007
Maybe the New Orleans Saints brought in cornerback Jason David for this one game. Maybe David will divulge some super-secret information as to how to halt the Indianapolis Colts’ dynamic offense. So far, David said not too many players have picked his brain. It is only Sunday, which is the first day of on-field game week preparation in Saintsland.
“I think I’ll be fielding a few more questions once the game gets closer,” David said. “I’m going to be here to help.”
Any bit of help will be welcomed, if not encouraged, as the Saints and Colts open the NFL season Thursday night in the RCA Dome. David knows the offense and the atmosphere as well as anyone. He spent the past three seasons as a starter on the edge of the Colts’ Cover 2 defense…

Seahawks Sign Wyms
September 4, 2007
As first reported by PewterReport.com, and confirmed by the NFL Network, the Seahawks have signed former Tampa Bay defensive tackle Ellis Wyms.
Wyms, a seven-year veteran from Mississippi State, was selected in the sixth round of the 2001 draft when current Seattle front office main men Tim Ruskell and Ruston Webster were basically running pro personnel in Tampa. Though he’ll add to the rotation in the wake of Marcus Tubbs’ season-ending knee injury, Wyms is known more as a pass-rushing tackle.

Tubbs’ Injury Brings New Meaning to Exhibition
September 2, 2007
Marcus Tubbs wanted to get up.
He tried to ignore the pain in his right knee and get to his feet and show that his season was not going to end before it even began.
The right knee is his good one, after all. At least it was. So Tubbs tried to get up. He got to one knee, stopped and rolled over on the ground, then tried again.
He got to his feet on his third attempt, and that’s when his right knee buckled. For a moment, so did the Seahawks defense.
The Seahawks beat the Raiders 19-14, but the game meant nothing. That first-quarter play meant everything. At least for Tubbs.
