The Lions spent their fourth-round pick (No. 115, acquired from NYJ) on Stillman College product Sammie Lee Hill, a 6-4, 329-pound defensive tackle.
Perhaps the screams for more defense penetrated the walls of Detroit’s war room.

Russell Checks In

Russell Checks In

Darrin Simmons, the Bengals special teams coach with the freeze-frame memory, knew right where to go to begin his in-depth study of Gary Russell this week.
He clicked his computer to last Nov. 20, when the Bengals played the Steelers, the game where Simmons knew Russell corked off one of the two longest kick returns against [...]

Bulked-up Ledbetter hoping for 'that call'

Bulked-up Ledbetter hoping for ‘that call’

In actuality, it’s a pretty dumb question.
Branden Ledbetter gets it every day these days.

The former Western Michigan University tight end, like all NFL prospects, won’t and can’t know until sometime this weekend, during or after the [...]

Curry a strong candidate to be Lions’ slot receiver

Ronald Curry didn’t want to wait for the draft. The Lions apparently didn’t, either.
That might explain the free-agent addition this week of Curry, a seven-year pro with the Oakland Raiders who signed a one-year deal in Detroit on Thursday. A day later, he was in uniform for the Lions’ three-day, mandatory mini-camp that ends [...]

Nebraska’s Lydon Murtha blew up the NFL Combine with some of the best timed speeds for a lineman in the last ten years. So, great, he’s athletic as heck—can he actually play tackle as a pro?
