Saints Expect Big Things from David

June 7, 2007

Jason David readily acknowledges money had a lot to do with why he left Indianapolis rather than help the Colts defend their Super Bowl title.

Yet, there were other factors that brought the young cornerback to the New Orleans Saints, David insists, such as pride, a new challenge, warmer weather and the chance to be part of another winning team whose story goes beyond football.

“They always play that highlight of the Saints coming out in the Superdome when it reopened. That’s kind of something that stuck in everybody’s mind regardless of whether you watch football or not, just seeing them be able to come home and the fans so happy to see them,” said David, who turns 25 on June 12. “I just feel like being here is an awesome opportunity to help out in the community and be part of such a great story.”

Friendly Competition

May 25, 2007

jdavidblog.pngJason David’s head has been swimming for the past few days. And he’s loving every minute of it.

The Saints’ exuberant new cornerback, who signed as a restricted free agent after three years in Indianapolis, said he has embraced his new team and teammates.

“It’s a lot of fun, man. I kind of feel like a rookie all over again, just in the sense that I’ve got to learn the playbook and I’m sitting in a position where I’m competing for my spot,”

David Doesn’t Fall Short

May 24, 2007

jdavidblog.pngNew Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston towered over newly acquired Jason David at the line of scrimmage in the cornerback’s first team session this week. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Colston looked down at David, a 5-8, 180-pound cornerback. It’s a problem David has to overcome every time he stares across the line at a bigger, more physical pass catcher.

“I kind of feel like a rookie all over again and that’s in all cases,” David said. “I come in here to play and I’ve got something to prove. As far as the playbook goes, it’s a lot different than what I’m accustomed to and what we ran in Indianapolis. I’ve got to get used to the language and the terminology around here.”

Who is Jason David?

May 1, 2007

jdavidblog.pngAsk any professional football players who have participated in a Super Bowl about their favorite memories of the game and most will speak of game-winning touchdowns, momentum-crushing interceptions, or the thrill of lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy after the game. But for New Orleans Saints’ cornerback Jason David, his greatest moment didn’t even happen on the field during Super Bowl XLI in Miami while playing for the Indianapolis Colts.

“I would say it was at halftime when we were up by two points going into the locker room. It just seemed appropriate that the game was close like that,” said the three-year NFL veteran. “Come halftime, everyone just looked around and said we had 30 minutes left to a championship. Those are the things I’ll remember. Not playing the game on the field, but looking in my teammates’ eyes and seeing the determination of everyone going after the same thing.”

Jason David Signs with Saints

April 27, 2007

jdavidblog.pngThe New Orleans Saints have signed CB Jason David, as the Indianapolis Colts have opted not to match the four-year contract the Saints offered to the Restricted Free Agent on April 19. The announcement was made by Saints’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

“We are obviously pleased to add Jason to our mix in the secondary,” said Loomis. “This is a positive addition as we make final preparations for this weekend’s draft. Jason is a young, emerging player with his best years ahead of him.”
